AnalogicTech pushes the backlight and flash LED...
Advanced Analogic Technologies Incorporated (AnalogicTech), a developer of power management semiconductors for mobile consumer electronics devices, announced the AAT2842, a 600mA charge pump with dual low dropout linear regulators for portable systems for lithium/polymer batteries. The new product features two independent S2Cwire(TM) serial digital interfaces that allow designers to independently drive up to four LEDs and four high current flash LEDs. According to Adolfo Garcia, director of product line at AnalogicTech, many mobile and personal electronic applications are powered by a single-cell lithium battery, such as a smart phone, digital camera, with a separate IC for backlighting and flashing, combined with a high-current charge pump. A backlight/keyboard driver, a high output flash driver, and two low dropout linear regulators, the AAT2842 offers product developers an attractive way to reduce the number of their parts, reduce system BOM costs and produce more compact systems without the need Compromise their design flexibility and circuit performance. The AAT2842 features a high current three-mode charge pump that can drive up to four backlights for each 30mA backlight. The backlight current output can be programmed to drive lower current LEDs such as keyboard backlight applications. The 30mA charge pump can also drive up to four 600mA flash LEDs. Two independent S2Cwire serial digital interfaces allow designers to independently turn on, turn off or set 16 levels of current for backlight/keyboard and flash. The backlight/keyboard and flash can also be independently controlled by an external resistor. To protect the flash LED from thermal damage, the AAT2842 also features an integrated flash timer that can be set by an external capacitor. Integrated into the AAT2842, there are two high performance low dropout linear regulators. Each low dropout linear regulator can supply a continuous load current of up to 200mA at a 200mV dropout voltage. The output voltage of each low dropout linear regulator is passed through an external resistor divider. Optimized for battery-powered applications, the low dropout linear regulator consumes only 85uA of quiescent current. The AAT2842 is available in a lead-free, 28-pin, 4 x 4 mm TQFN44 package and is priced at $1.75 each in 1,000-unit quantities.
