LED will be used on a large scale in Hong Kong subway stations and train lighting

Future Lighting Solutions announced today that it provides key technical design support for the new energy-efficient LED lighting equipment introduced by the MTR (Mass Transit Railway) last month. Each new type of lighting consists of 32 high-power LEDs designed to reduce the energy consumption of city trains, extend lamp life to reduce replacement costs, and provide more natural light than traditional fluorescent lights, providing comfort to commuters. .

Future Lighting Solutions has been involved in this project as a strategic partner since early 2007. It has partnered with Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and industrial lighting specialist JM Technologies Limited; the required LEDs have also been provided by Future Lighting Solutions.

Future Lighting Solutions trained the MTR engineering team on the energy, heat and optical issues involved in high-power LEDs. As an LED solution provider, the company also provides technical design support, including a combination of unreserved sharing of engineering staff and proprietary LED application development tools to ensure optimal reliability and performance.

The installed equipment is estimated to consume 30% less electricity than fluorescent lamps and has a lifetime that is three times that of fluorescent lamps and can reach 50,000 hours. Although solid-state lighting costs are slightly higher, the two savings in energy and spare bulbs are expected to offset the higher costs in two years and will reduce overall maintenance costs in the long run.

MTR Corporation Limited plans to adopt solid-state train lighting on a larger scale in the future and has developed a project to pave the way for the project. The installation of new lighting equipment on three MTR trains is one of the projects. component. Hong Kong Railway Company Limited is a listed company that owns and manages the Hong Kong MTR subway system. The MTR Corporation also plans to use solid-state lighting in the subway station. It will first be installed at the Choi Hung station. The installation project is scheduled to be completed in August 2009.

Jacques Blais, corporate vice president of Future Lighting Solutions, said: MTR has made a commitment to reduce carbon footprint, and we have been actively helping them deliver on their promises. We will continue to work closely with JM Technologies and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology to leverage the power of today's high-power LED technology to drive the green initiative of MTR.
