Glory V8 with VR mobile phone factory card virtual reality is a follow-up or layout?

Yesterday evening, Glory released the V-series' first flagship mobile phone V8 in Beijing, and the 2K screen full Netcom version is also equipped with glory VR.

Obviously, VR has become a hot word at the launch of mobile phone manufacturers. Samsung, Sony, HTC, Huawei, Xiaomi, LeTV and Lenovo, ZTE, all imaginable mobile phone manufacturers are following the VR market.

Last year, VR was also classified as black technology. In this year, if you don't mention "black technology", you are embarrassed to say that you are a mobile phone manufacturer. If you don't mention VR, the mobile phone conference will be incomplete. In this regard, experts and some mobile phone manufacturers believe that VR is still very early, whether it is hardware form, software architecture, content platform, profit model, etc. are in the early stage of exploration; now more follow-up is to follow the trend-oriented Me too" strategy, especially for some small vendors.

Mobile phone manufacturer card VR market

Last year, VR was only a handful of vendors. This year, a variety of VR products were born. According to a survey by third-party agency Strategy AnalyTIcs, the global VR headset market will reach 895 million US dollars in 2016, and VR headset shipments will reach 12.8 million. Smartphone-based low-end devices will dominate.

Therefore, mobile phone manufacturers have vacated the VR market and launched smart phone-based VR devices.

In November 2015, Samsung began shipping its Gear VR product, which needs to be used with compatible Galaxy phones. According to reports from related media, Samsung’s Gear VR equipment shipped 250,000 units last year. Zuckerberg said this year that MWC will be able to get Gear VR for the Samsung Gear VR platform. .

In addition to Samsung, domestic mobile phone manufacturers are also keen to launch VR products. At this year's CES, Lenovo also launched Google's Project Tango smart mobile device. This is a product optimized by Lenovo, Google and Qualcomm. It can make mobile phones gain the same perspective as humans, cover digital information and objects in the real world, and realize the fusion of virtual and reality.

Huawei put an egg at the P9 conference: Huawei released the first generation of VR devices. However, Huawei did not disclose a lot of information, the release date and price have not been announced, in addition to 20ms ultra-low latency, 0-700 degrees of myopia available, support 360-degree vision, sound field synchronization, but also the first call function, Achieve virtual and realistic one-click switching.

In addition, Xiaomi, LeTV and ZTE are also involved in the VR field. Xiaomi set up the VR team at the end of last year, and then built the Xiaomi Exploration Lab, which involves artificial intelligence and VR. The laboratory is responsible for Huang Jiangji and Tang Mu. LeTV released the first VR product in December last year, LeTV Cool1. It can be adapted to music 1, music 1Pro; ZTE also said that the first VR product will be released at the same time as the new AXON product release next month.

On the one hand, mobile phone manufacturers are keen to launch VR products as soon as possible, but on the other hand, mobile phone manufacturers also realize that VR is still in the exploration stage, and some basic experiences are not even guaranteed, such as screen resolution. Therefore, some people think that mobile phone manufacturers are more involved in VR or follow suit.

Is it a follow-up or a strategic layout?

"Personal feelings are still based on the trend, 'me too' strategy. VR is still very early, whether it is hardware form, software architecture, content platform, profit model, etc. are in the early stage of exploration." Strategy AnalyTIc wireless smartphone strategy analysis Director Qian Qian told Netease Technology.

In terms of hardware form, mobile phone manufacturers are more inclined to use it with smartphones. But at present, the resolution of smartphones is basically 1080P, and a small part is 2K screen. But for VR, resolution below 2K is not enough. Meizu Li Nan said that under the VR eyepiece, the resolution will be reduced to 1/6 to 1/8 of the original. Therefore, the VR effect without 2K resolution 4K resolution is always problematic. Currently, the 1080P screen of the mobile phone is in a non-VR scene. It is enough, if the resolution is high, there will be problems.

In this regard, Huawei Yu Chengdong believes: "VR requires higher resolution. 2K per eye is not enough, and each eye needs 4K or 8K." Yu Yifang, vice president of ZTE Corporation and executive vice president of China, believes that if the mobile phone manufacturer It is not realistic to talk about VR without a 2K screen; he believes that this is more of an industry hype. Meinan Li Nan said to Netease Technology, "If you look at the investment, you know whether it is strategic. The dual 4K or dual 2K split machine needs tens of millions of R&D investment. This kind of investment indicates great determination, otherwise it is more gimmick."

According to Netease Technology, Huawei's investment in VR has started very early, mainly by the Shanghai Research Institute. In addition to VR hardware, Huawei is more concerned with the demand for future bandwidth brought by VR. Xu Wenwei, Huawei's managing director and strategic director of MarkeTIng, mentioned the first keyword at the Huawei analyst conference this year. He believes that VR needs to support the perfect virtual reality experience, which requires ubiquitous ultra-wideband, zero-waiting, and extremely experienced networks.

"There will be thousands of companies doing VR in the future, but there are only a few companies doing network transmission. This is an opportunity for all industries, and we will solve some of the challenges." Xu Wenwei said.

In the VR investment, Wei Wei, the head of the LeTV VR Business Center, revealed in an interview with NetEase Technology that LeTV has set up a VR business unit inside, focusing on the innovation, R&D, industrial chain expansion, business cooperation and other businesses of VR cloud technology. .

Moreover, for LeTV, VR has a pivotal position in the company. "This year's 420 LeTV new product launch, VR is one of the four heavyweight products, equivalent to cars, televisions, mobile phones, the importance can be imagined." Wei Wei said. At the press conference, LeTV revealed that it will launch mobile phone embedded terminals and all-in-one products.

Qian Qian believes that "the big manufacturers are mainly considering the strategic layout, but also the consideration of competitive factors. Small companies are mostly following the trend and doing short-term profit. But now it seems that the short-term profit prospects are not clear."

Therefore, the entry of the whole industry into the VR field is an inevitable trend of technological development, but having core technologies and patents is the key. Otherwise, it will be difficult to have long-term development.
