This year, Apple still holds the absolute leading position in the tablet PC market. As of now, the total sales volume of Apple iPad tablet computers reached 14.5 million units, of which only 4.2 million units were sold in the first 19 days of the fourth quarter.
Google’s Android tablet’s market share will reach 11%. Although Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet PC with Android 2.2 operating system and 7-inch display was launched by wireless operators in the United States in mid-November, its global sales in December exceeded one million units. Richard Munster, an analyst at U.S. investment bank Piper Jaffray, was very surprised. He said that the tablet "hasn't been a big deal since it was launched, but it has now been unexpectedly successful."
Munster expects 2011 to be a year for Android tablets to take off. Motorola plans to launch 7-inch and 10-foot Android tablets in 2011. Samsung is also preparing to launch a 10-foot tablet next year. This has laid a good foundation for the rapid growth of Android tablets.
Munster also expects that the market share of Apple’s iPad tablet will reach 53% in 2011, and Google’s Android tablet’s market share will reach 32.5%. In 2012, the total sales of tablet PCs will reach 70.80 million units, of which iPad tablet computers will account for 44% and Android tablet computers will account for 39%. The Microsoft Windows 7 Tablet PC, RIM's Playbook Tablet PC and HP webOS Tablet PC will jointly occupy the remaining 17% of the market.
