Energy Technology Lights "Low Carbon Expo"

On May 1st, the 2010 Shanghai World Expo officially opened to welcome Chinese and foreign tourists. 189 countries and 57 international organizations from all over the world actually participated in the exhibition, creating the highest history of the Expo in 159 years. The theme of this Expo is “Better City, Better Life”, and “Green, Low Carbon, Sustainable” and other environmental elements have been fully reflected in the big stage of the World Expo.

"Wind" and "Light" infinitely welcome the Expo

Looking at the Expo site, green technology can be seen everywhere, and the biggest highlight is the large-scale application of solar energy and wind energy. The main venues such as the theme pavilion, the China Pavilion, the Expo Center, and the Performing Arts Center in the park, as well as self-built pavilions in many countries, have installed solar cells in the form of roofs and curtain walls, with a total installed capacity of more than 4.68 MW, becoming the current domestic and even Asian The largest photovoltaic building integrated grid-connected power generation system is 7.5 times the application volume of the Beijing Olympic Games. According to calculations, the annual average power generation of the photovoltaic building integration system of the Expo Park is 4.08 million kWh, which can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 3,330 tons. In addition, integrated design and construction saves more than 30% of the cost of building a solar power system alone. In terms of wind power generation, the wind power generation of the Shanghai World Expo is twice that of the Beijing Olympic Games.

The reporter learned from the State Grid Corporation that although the Expo is awkward, the actual electricity consumption is not too large, which is largely due to the application of semiconductor lighting (LED) technology. The urban best practice area in the Expo Park and the landscape lighting of the “One Axis and Four Pavilions” all adopt LED. More than 80% of the night lighting in the entire park adopts LED, which has become the world's largest LED centralized demonstration area.

Green Technology Demonstration

During the Shanghai World Expo, a total of 1080 new energy vehicles were demonstrated on a large scale in the Expo Park and surrounding areas. After the official opening, the traffic in the Expo site will truly achieve “zero emissions”. In addition to the 120 pure electric vehicles on the Yuejiang line, 36 supercapacitor vehicles will be put on the Expo Avenue, and all the sightseeing vehicles in the park will adopt new fuel cell vehicles. This is also the world's largest commercial demonstration of new energy vehicles. New technologies such as eco-energy-saving buildings and river water source heat collection will also be widely used in the Expo site.

During the World Expo, the Expo Park will also showcase multiple smart grid demonstrations and demonstration projects. For example, with the electric information collection system, all the measurement points in the Expo site are included in the demonstration object, and the electricity consumption information collection system is built. The electric power enterprise can complete the automatic energy measurement and automatic meter reading, and obtain timely, accurate and complete data support. At the same time, the project will build about 70 monitoring points in the Expo site to build a power quality monitoring network covering 110 kV and 35 kV substations in the Expo site, and effectively monitor the power quality of the Expo site. Carry out intelligent building construction, develop integrated energy management system, collect real-time operating status of power equipment, and adopt two-way interactive technology to realize comprehensive energy-saving control of buildings.

Domestic and foreign energy companies actively serve

The Expo not only encourages the application of innovative technologies, but also embraces the bidding mechanism. It is quite innovative. In the Expo Park, many large orders were won by private enterprises and foreign enterprises. In terms of project construction, the three forces of the people, foreign countries and the country have combined forces and achieved good results. For example, the solar photovoltaic projects of the Theme Pavilion and the China Pavilion are all implemented by Wuxi Suntech Power Company, and the PV project of the Expo Center is completed by Aerospace Electromechanical Company. Especially worth mentioning is the theme pavilion. The total area of the pavilion is more than 60,000 square meters. The total installed area of photovoltaic system is 30,000 square meters. It is the largest solar roof in the world.

It is understood that more than 150,000 LED lights that light up the various venues and streets in the Expo site are provided by OSRAM of the Siemens Group, including the China Pavilion and the Expo Center. According to the relevant person in charge, this reporter revealed that GE, Chevron, France Power Group, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and other well-known foreign green technology producers have participated in the construction of the Expo venue.

Despite the diversification of construction entities, energy-saving technologies with China's independent intellectual property rights are still eye-catching at the Expo. Take China's own design and construction of a standard venue theme pavilion with completely independent intellectual property rights. Its solar roof and ecological green wall have the highest scale and efficiency in the world.

Taking into account future urban energy planning

The energy innovation of the Expo is also reflected in the energy planning of the “post-Expo” Shanghai. According to Hao Guoqiang of Shanghai Solar Engineering Technology Research Center, the Expo Center Pavilion can provide strong energy support while saving energy, achieving an annual power generation of 1 million kWh. After the Expo, this part of the electricity will be used to supply electricity to Shanghai. "This figure can be used by about 2,000 households for one year," he said.

It is also reported that with the Sichuan Xiangjiaba-Shanghai ±800 kV UHV DC project fully completed and put into operation in June, it will add 35 billion kWh of southwest hydropower to Shanghai every year, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 26 million tons. That is to say, in the “post-Expo” era, half of Shanghai’s electricity consumption will come from clean energy and become the city with the most green electricity in the world.
