HP Omen X VR backpack computer shipped in June this year

Previously, HP had launched the Omen X VR backpack computer, but the official has not announced the shipment date of the computer. It is reported that this computer will be shipped in June this year. Officials are currently accepting application product tests from gamers and developers.

Ron Coughlin, president of HP's personal computer business, said that HP will launch two Omen X backpack computers, one for players and one for customers. With this backpack computer, the user can carry the PC on his shoulders, connect the HTC Vive or Oculus Rift, and walk freely within a certain area. The computer can provide head graphics with powerful graphics performance.

The Omen X VR backpack computer is only about 10 pounds, which is about 4.5kg. Two batteries are fixed on one strap, which can provide about 1 hour VR experience. Both batteries are hot-swappable, allowing users to alternately charge two batteries during the experience without shutting down. The Omen X computer also provides 2 USB Type-C, 2 USB 3.0, and 1 HDMI interface.

Coughlin said the Omen X computer was launched last year. Since the launch, Omen X has received a warm response. There are many players interested in this, of course, there are advice from military, entertainment and other companies. HP will work with some customers, such as the military, to develop content, and HP's workstations will play an important role in commercial VR applications.

Given its configuration and design, HP's backpack computers are not cheap. VR computers require high-end processors and graphics cards, and components are expensive due to shortages, resulting in increased costs.

After giving up the Voodoo brand in 2008, HP switched to Omen instead of high-end brands. Hewlett-Packard tries to get the fancier's appeal by using a backpack computer. It should be noted that Omen’s position among game enthusiasts is very high.

Other brands of backpack computers have already been shipped. Sotec's VR Go is priced at $1,750, and MSI's VR backpack computer is priced at $1,899. Although Dell did not formally ship VR computers, it has already demonstrated a concept product before.

HP is actively seeking VR and AR, and personal computers are part of this grand strategy. In the future, HP also plans to allow users to customize shoes using PCs, scanners, and 3D printers.
