The JFET (MPF102) is used to cut off the DC signal when the AC-coupled amplifier is amplified. Q3 is a chopper element and Q1, Q2 form a multivibrator and generate a chopping signal. R is used to set the bias voltage on the FET, so that the MPF102 is as low as possible.
