Maxim launches MAX3601 laser driver for automotive projectors

The RGB laser driver for head-up display has lower power consumption, lower cost and smaller size than the LED-driven mini projector.

Beijing, China, January 22, 2013-Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. (NASDAQ: MXIM) launched the MAX3601, a highly integrated 8-bit RGB laser driver for automotive micro laser projector applications, and samples are now available. Compared with traditional solutions, our design has a smaller size, higher brightness and lower cost, providing a clearer, higher pixel quality automotive head-up display (HUD).

This IC drives three RGB lasers to provide higher brightness while maintaining low power consumption performance. The high-density laser can display brighter and more vivid picture effects on the HUD, making the driver clear at a glance, thereby effectively improving safety. In addition, high integration means longer battery life, less heat generation and smaller module size.

Main advantage

Low cost: integrate all functions with a very small PCB area; integrate three current output laser drivers in a single laser

Low power consumption: bias current consumption is only 80mW, optimizing output brightness and energy efficiency

Small size, easy to design / produce: three built-in lasers without additional photoelectric devices

High efficiency: the total power consumption of the module is less than 1W, with a longer battery life, less heat generation, and a smaller heat sink
