Molex releases MobliquA next-generation bandwidth-enhanced antenna technology

Molex, the world's leading supplier of complete interconnect products, releases detailed information on its innovative antenna technology. MobliquA â„¢ antenna technology incorporates proprietary bandwidth enhancement technology that has been successfully applied to Molex standard and custom antenna designs. MobliquA technology is designed to increase the impedance bandwidth in any application with wirelessly coupled antennas, including standard antennas in mobile phones, smartphones, portable TVs, and industrial applications.

Morten Christensen, RF product development manager at Molex, explained: "Traditional passive antenna structures are based on complex and tortuous antenna patterns, which have some limitations in manufacturing tolerances and mechanical performance. MobliquA technology enables simple and robust antenna design to maximize Reduce the amount of work required to adjust repeatedly during each build cycle. "

MobliquA technology is suitable for small mobile phones, portable electronic products, tablet computers and notebook-sized devices, provides a powerful multi-purpose platform, and supports both single-feed and dual-feed RF architectures in the same antenna structure. The dual feed configuration can provide at least 20dB of isolation between input ports while maintaining bandwidth enhancement characteristics. Good isolation and bandwidth simplify the optimization of antenna impedance to match different RF engines, reduce current consumption and improve energy transmission efficiency.

MobliquA technology provides high noise immunity, which facilitates the insertion of metal objects into the antenna, as well as the use of RF decoupling or grounding components such as grounder housings as an integrated component of the antenna system. Moreover, this technology uses a unique feed technology, plus the antenna element is directly grounded, providing excellent front-end ESD protection.

Christensen added: "Compared to standard systems such as L or F antennas, this new technology can provide 60% to 70% improvement in impedance bandwidth without increasing the size of the antenna or reducing the radiation efficiency."

MobliquA bandwidth-enhanced antenna technology is now available for new designs and has been selected by a leading Tier 1 mobile phone manufacturer.
