October 25, 2004... New Fairlight Audio Mixing System Incorporates OSRAM Pictiva OLED Display for Crystal-Clear, In-Line Channel Panel
San Jose, California USA ? OSRAM Opto Semiconductors Inc. today announced the newest application for its PictivaTM line of graphic display products, marking the first time organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays have been used in the high-end audio market. OSRAM ?s OLED technology has been chosen by Fairlight, a worldwide leader in digital audio development, for integration into Fairlight?s new audio mixing system.
Fairlight has chosen OSRAM?s 96x64 pixel graphics Pictiva OLED display for use in its new Constellation-XT, a completely integrated, large format audio mixer and multi-track editor. Fairlight has further chosen to incorporate 72 individual Pictiva displays in its new In- Line Channel Panel (ILP) on the mixing surface to provide significant visual enhancements to the mixing surface design. Passive matrix viewing now includes Elegance Yellow coloration with a contrast ration of 100:1.
?This latest OLED application underscores both our commitment and our ability to provide the widest range of display solutions available,? said Alfred Felder, OLED Unit Business Head, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors Inc. ?We are delighted to be the first to provide display solutions in This innovative audio environment, and we intent to continue developing solutions that are synergistic with the next display innovation.?
Using a large quantity of Pictiva OLED displays on the ILP enables a crisp and crystal-clear representation of audio channel settings. Additionally, the 72 displays provide significant ergonomic improvements to mixing surface design. Traditional audio mixing systems are mounted at desk height and at a The distance of over 2.5 meters to the left or right of the operator, who is seated during operation. Pictiva?s viewing angle of 160 degrees, coupled with its bright viewing surface, enable the surface to remain in its typical location yet be easily accessible. And while traditional LED displays only have enough resolution to present a 14-character channel name, Pictiva OLED displays enable ILP users to view vast quantities of information.
In audio, it is critical that the mixture of a large number of parameters be instagram recognizable to the user. These parameters include high-resolution level information and equalizer and dynamics processor information, in addition to channel name, panning position and status,? Said Tino Fibaek, chief technology officer, Fairlight. ?OSRAM?s OLED Pictiva displays were an ideal solution, as traditional light-emitting diodes (LEDs) do not provide the resolution to provide an accurate representation of these parameters.
Fairlight?s Constellation-XT professional audio mixing system will be showcased during the 117th Audio Engineering Society Convention (AES 2004) from Thursday, October 28 - Sunday, October 31, 2004 at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco (Booth #1018).
