Siri founding team released "salesman" - voice assistant Viv

Maybe you enjoy Siri's baggage and smashing mountains, but when you want to do a real business, this one will lose you a related link at the top, and the guest officer will do it yourself. Dag Kittlaus, one of the creators of “Siri”, wants to tell you that the business of their smart voice assistant Viv is professional.

According to the Washington Post, the intelligent voice assistant Viv, developed by the Siri startup team, was officially released today. Dag Kittlaus, one of the CEOs of Viv and one of the “Siri” creators, pointed out the biggest difference between Viv and Siri: Viv does not chat, only business.

After jumping out of Apple 4 years ago, one-third of Siri's original R&D team formed Viv's R&D team, and the team's motivation to do Viv came from Siri's dissatisfaction. “The original Siri was not like this,” Kittlaus said. “It’s not a smart chat bot.”

Before the Siri project was taken over by Apple, Kittlaus and another creator, Adam Cheyer, wanted Siri to focus on mobile business services, which would help people easily book airline tickets, buy pizza, and taxis instead of simply voice messages.

At the beginning of 2010, Siri was also a stand-alone app on the iOS app store. It was designed to avoid search pages and does not require users to open other apps and provide services directly from sites like Yelp, OpenTable, Google Maps. These features are also reflected in Viv.

Less than six months after its launch, Siri was quickly taken over by Apple and its position changed from “salesman” to “information provider”. Kittlaus and Cheyer couldn't do anything about it. They left Apple two years later and took away one-third of the Siri start-up team.

For Kirtlaus and Cheyer, Siri does become smarter with constant R&D updates, but it is getting farther and farther than their ideal Siri. They admit that Viv was born to achieve the image of their ideal Siri.

In an interview with The Washington Post, Viv's team described a fascinating test scenario: eight taste-thinking engineers didn't open any software, and successfully booked their own custom pizza takeaways with voice, including complex Ingredients requirements.

“Pizzaa Chicago near the office orders pizza.” An engineer gave instructions in voice. Viv immediately asked about the ingredients requirements, and each of the eight engineers shouted the requirements of “Italian Spicy Sausage”, “Semi-Meated Cheese”, “Caesar Salad”, and engineers temporarily changed the model from medium to large.

After 40 minutes, the takeaways sent Pizza to the Viv office, and the engineers opened the check and ate it – all the instructions were collected and the results were accurate. During the period they did not make any calls, open any software, just sit in the office and wait to eat.

The success of the Pizza test has inspired engineers because in the mobile business world, a small change in consumer behavior can also bring about major changes in the industry and even establish a new industry chain.

But the business application field is more complicated than ordering a Pizza. The system's recognition ability and execution ability are much higher. Is Viv really capable? And the implementation of the business by voice is based on the internal agreement with the website. Is there enough of these connection channels of Viv? At an industry conference today, Viv will be officially “on the job” and the answers to these questions will be answered.

Now, the problems that Kittlaus and his team care about are more headaches than the application areas of Viv.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Google executives have already expressed their initial willingness to buy, and Kittlaus and his team suddenly found that they faced the same situation when Siri was acquired by Apple six years ago: whether to accept the acquisition of a large company, or let Viv independent? It's about how much their product settings are distorted, or how widely they are applied.
