The first unit of the underground power station of the Three Gorges Water Control Project is connected to the grid for power generation

After nearly 10 years of construction, the world’s largest water conservancy project, the first unit of the underground power station of the Three Gorges Water Control Project, was formally connected to the grid at 2:00 pm on the 23rd.

According to the introduction of the director of the operation department of the Three Gorges Power Station to the Division, this action achieved a “zero breakthrough” in the Chinese Yangtze River abandoned water power generation.

The Three Gorges Project is divided into three phases. The total construction period is 17 years. It was completed in 2009. The Three Gorges Reservoir can store 175 meters of water.

The Three Gorges Underground Power Station designed and installed six sets of 700,000-kilowatt mixed-flow turbine-generator units with a total installed capacity of 4.2 million kilowatts and a designed annual power generation of 3.511 billion kwh.
