What are the future plans for Valve and are you interested in making a complete Vive game?

Valve The free VR game “The Lab” that has been created for HTC Vive is a collection of room-scale VR experiments built on the aperture technology pocket universe. This includes repairing robots, defending castles, adopting robotic dogs and many other experiences. In this regard, Valve believes VR will be an important tool for creating interesting games. Gabe Newell said: “The most important thing at the moment is to expand the choices we have for the game experience we have developed and to strengthen our research on hardware. At the same time, we are also developing our own VR games.” The employee of the V company whose program Reddit ID is Programmer_Joe said, Steam controller's production line is gradually expanding, the next production line is mainly for the "Steam Dev Days" mentioned base stations, plans to arrive in the second half of this year.

When does Valve's new VR controller finally arrive?

Valve announced a new VR controller prototype at the "Steam Dev Days" developer conference last October. The prototype design of the new VR controller is similar to that of the Oculus Touch. It aims to free the user's hands and to capture objects more naturally in virtual reality. However, Gabe Newell said that the new joystick controller is still under development.

In addition to HTC, does Valve want to open up the Lighthouse/ Steam VR technology to more hardware manufacturers? What are the reasons other companies are not currently publicly available?

Valve announced the opening of Lighthouse positioning technology last year (note: not open source). Third-party developers need to pay Valve a fee for a developer kit and related training materials to develop third-party products that can interact with Lighthouse. For this issue, Valve said that so far, 500 companies have registered to apply for the Lighthouse system. Some of these companies are developing heads-up. A small number of companies have expressed their willingness to make public, but most companies have indicated that they need to prepare. Good to announce it to the outside world.

OEM Batteries

OEM is "original equipment manufacturer" which means the battery is identical to what was originally supplied with the phone. Non-OEM is a battery made by a different company that reverse-engineered the original battery and started producing functionally-equivalent copies for sale into the same application.

There is no hard and fast rule, but generally people perceive OEM to be higher quality and more reliable than non-OEM, as a result pricing will often be higher for OEM batteries. Batteries are difficult to manufacture consistently because minor variations in water content (parts per million) and minor mis-matching of the anode and cathode capacities (produced by micron thickness variations in coating processes) cause substantial cycle life reduction in the final battery. It could be the difference between getting 100 cycles out of a battery (not to hard) versus 500 (more challenging). OEM's might have a higher reject rate of marginal batteries, which leads to higher costs on the ones that do pass.
