Beautiful 3D printed materials are automatically assembled into caterpillar robots

Robotics is growing very fast. At present, robots behave like rebellious young people. They may say, “Don't worry about me, I can assemble myself!” Researchers from Harvard University and MIT recently developed a new one. A 3D printed self-assembling "Caterpillar Robot".

Shape memory polymer material - can be automatically folded into a specific shape, robotic manufacturing can be converted from a two-dimensional plane object to a few centimeters long caterpillar-like robot, they are folded along two hinges, human only The only thing involved is the addition of the engine and battery.

SamFelton of Harvard's Micro Robotics Lab says that my colleagues and I aim to develop robots that can print at the fastest speed and at the lowest possible cost. They can be assembled automatically and the assembly process takes about an hour.

Felton pointed out that the next step is to build a more complex robot that can assemble and walk at will. Future robot designs will be pre-installed with batteries and engines. Currently, researchers showcased the robot at the International Conference on Robotics and Automation held in Germany last week.
