Europe officially launches 5G network plan

The European Commission (EC) officially announced the 5G PPP, dedicated to accelerating the work of the fifth generation of cellular networks for 2020 and beyond. This plan will follow the 3GPP development process. 3GPP is an existing standards organization that develops specifications for today's Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks.

The 5GPPP is not the only organization dedicated to the next generation of cellular network standards, but it is expected to be one of the most influential organizations. For example, after setting up its own 3G mobile network standard, China has successfully led the global development of the TD-LTE standard.

Earlier this year, the new 5G PPP organization in Europe first published the 5G draft, laying the broad horizons and research agenda for the next generation of cellular networks.

The 5G PPP draft was proposed by 24 telecom vendors, system manufacturers and research groups, including ALU, Ericsson, France Telecom, Huawei, and Intel. Nokia (NSN) and Telecom Italia.

They expect that the future mobile network will combine wireless networks and cloud computing data centers.

The report's future results: "Ten years later, telecommunications and IT industry will be integrated on a large scale toward a common infrastructure based on general purpose and programmable hardware to provide resources for transmission, routing, storage and execution. Network equipment will Becomes a 'computing equivalent' device that collects programmable resources based on virtualization technology that will be embedded in computing and storage resources under a converged infrastructure to coordinate IT and network services Provided."

The draft mentions that 5G networks are expected to provide 1,000 times more performance than 2010 3G networks and consume only 10% of the total power of each network service. It also proposes the adoption of emerging technologies for software-defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualization, enabling new services to be implemented in minutes (without hours).

The draft also calls for the industry to conduct extensive research in wireless, optical and software technologies, including the new air interface that can lead to a higher 80%. At the same time, it also needs more new wireless technologies, including channel modeling, access and interference processing, and more progress in the use of multiple antennas and shared spectrum discontinuous carrier aggregation.

The establishment of the 5GPPP to implement this plan "can be said to be an important milestone in the application of 5G applications, requirements, and technology to the industry-wide agreement," said Werner Mohr, who is responsible for leading 5G PPP. Werner Mohr is also the head of the Nokia Research Alliance.

"Over the next decade, LTE technology and its continuous progress will be sufficient. However, after 2020, the industry will need a new generation of technology to meet market demand. New technologies and their continuous development will continue to this decade. The end of the year," Werner Mohr stressed.
