The European Commission (EC) officially announced the 5G PPP, dedicated to accelerating the work of the fifth generation of cellular networks for 2020 and beyond. It also proposes the adoption of emerging technologies for software-defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualization, enabling new services to be implemented in minutes (without hours).

The draft also calls for the industry to conduct extensive research in wireless, optical and software technologies, including the new air interface that can lead to a higher 80%. At the same time, it also needs more new wireless technologies, including channel modeling, access and interference processing, and more progress in the use of multiple antennas and shared spectrum discontinuous carrier aggregation.
