First, CC2541 device overview

The CC2541 is a true on-chip system (SoC) solution for power optimization for low power and proprietary 2.4 GHz applications. It makes it possible to build robust network nodes with low overall bill of materials costs. The CC2541 combines the performance of leading RF transceivers with an industry-standard enhanced 8051MCU, in-system programmable flash memory, 8kBRAM and many other powerful features and peripherals. The CC2541 is ideal for systems that require ultra-low power consumption. This is specified by a number of different operating modes. Shorter transition times between operating modes further make low energy consumption possible

If the USB on the CC2540 is not enabled and the I2C/extra I/O on the CC2541 is not enabled, the CC2541 and CC2540 are pin compatible in a 6mm x 6mm quad flat no-lead (QFN) 40 package. Compared to the CC2540, the CC2541 offers lower RF current consumption. The CC2541 does not have the USB interface of the CC2540 and provides a lower maximum output power in TX mode. The CC2541 also adds an HWI2C interface.

The CC2541 is pin compatible with the CC2533 optimized RF4CE IEEE802.15.4 SoC. The CC2541 is available in two different versions: CC2541F128/F256 with 128kB and 256kB flash respectively.
