Broadcom has introduced a silicon-proven 7-nanometer IP core that will use ASICs to attack the popular markets of artificial intelligence (AI), 5G and high-bandwidth networks. The 7-nanometer ASIC that Broadcom has built for its customers was finalized at the end of last year. Broadcom also stated that it will be responsible for the 7-nanometer ASIC wafer foundry and CoWoS package order. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd. led the industry with its 7nm process. Following the industry’s announcement of Apple’s next-generation A12 application processor, AMD’s next-generation Vega graphics chip, and Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon mobile phone chips, TSMC’s 7nm process chip will be adopted. Broadcom also confirmed that it will adopt TSMC 7 Nano-processes create an ASIC platform, rushing into markets with strong demand for AI and high-speed networking. Broadcom builds ASIC platform based on TSMC's 7nm process, and announced that it is leading the industry to launch 7nm silicon-certified IP cores, including high-speed serial deserializer (SerDes), second-generation and third-generation high-bandwidth memory physical layer (HBMGen2/ Gen3PHY), Die Stack PHY, Mixed Signal and Basic Silicon Wealth. As for ASIC platform processor cores, ARM cores and peripheral IP cores are used. Broadcom's 7-nanometer ASICs, in addition to locking AI applications such as deep learning, and rushing into the high-performance computing (HPC) chip market, will also use TSMC CoWoS advanced packaging technology to directly integrate HBMGen2/Gen3 memory into the chip. As for the high-speed SerDes IP core, it will help build high-speed switch or router application chips and complete single-chip systems supporting 5G high-speed and broadband networks. Broadcom said that the 7-nanometer ASIC created for the major customers has been finalized at the end of last year. For Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, 7nm is the highlight of this year's operation. After the relevant production capacity is expected to be completed in the middle of this year, the volume will be pulled up quickly after the second quarter. TSMC’s co-CEO Wei Zhejia pointed out in the legal briefing last week that TSMC’s 7-nanometer chip has already been finalized for designing 10 chips, and it will enter the mass production phase after the second quarter, and there will be another 10 7-nanometer chips in the first quarter. Finalizing the design, the number of finalized 7-nanometer chip designs will exceed 50 by the end of this year. The major applications include mobile devices, games, central processors, programmable logic gate arrays (FPGAs), Netcom, and AI. TSMC expects that revenue in US dollars in the first half of this year will grow by a little over 15% from the same period of last year, and revenue in the second half of the year will grow slightly below 10% from the same period of last year. According to the industry, TSMC’s forecast revenue for the first quarter will be between US$84-8.5 billion. The second-quarter revenue performance will be slightly lower than the first quarter of US$83-8.4 billion, and the third quarter starts to recognise. After 7nm revenue, revenue is expected to jump to more than US$9 billion. Do not rule out that the single-quarter revenue in the fourth quarter is likely to increase by US$10 billion.
